Part 3 of the Scottish Trip
On Wednesday (Day 3) we drove quite a way from our house up to Oban with the aim of boarding the ferry at 12.30pm, along with the return ferry at 7.30pm. that gave us a few hours to explore the Isle of Mull. As often happens, you could view the weather as either being awful, wet and windy or you can enjoy and rejoice in the scenery and see the awesome number of waterfalls cascading down the hills and mountains. We chose the latter and did most of our exploring within the dry

Part 2 of the Scotland Trip
Moving on from Part 1, after my group of American friends and I moved into a wonderful Airbnb house on the northern side of Glasgow in Milngarvie, we set about our 'reinvented' tour of Scotland following the cancelling of our original boat and bike tour round the Inner Hebrides. Day 1 (Monday) consisted of a tour, using our hired vehicles, to go to the following places: Stirling Castle The Kelpies The Falkirk Wheel. This was my first trip to all three of these venues and Stir

Part 1 of the Scotland Tour
As previously mentioned, since completing and arriving home from my American tour on 29th July, much of my attention has been focused on rescuing the Scotland tour which was due to start on Friday 14th August. The Boat and Bike company, to be fair to them, have been very supportive since they cancelled our tour which was due to start on 16th August and finish on 23rd August. Luckily I was able to find a fantastic Airbnb property In Milngavie (pronounced Milne Guy) which could

Taking some Falls but rising up for Scotland 🏴
Okay! The last time you heard from me I was in Erie, Pennsylvania but since then a great deal has taken place! Some of it terrific, other bits quite taxing! It was my last day on the Northen Tier ride into Niagara that I received the news that the tour in Scotland I had arranged for 21 American friends, just over two weeks away, had been cancelled.😠 Thanks to the support and encouragement from LeeAnn and Scott White, who were due to come to Scotland, we were able to rescue t

Week 4 of the Great Lakes Tour - done!
Only one ride this week was a struggle but all the others were successfully completed so another 300+ miles clocked up meaning that since arriving in the USA I have now completed some 1,330 miles in 4 weeks. I only have two more rides to complete to add another 100+ miles to add to the tour and finish with a visit to the Niagara Falls before catching my flights home back to England. This weekend we are staying in Erie in Pennsylvania with Sunday as a day off but this week we

Week 3 - Done! - What a week of contrasts 😎➡️😶🌫️
This last week has been quite strange with the weather being effected by the wildfires in Northern Minnesota and Canada, whilst I kept myself informed to the wildfires in Europe. The air quality has not been good in the second half of the week after we cycled over 400 miles in six days through the upper peninsula and then down the eastern shore of the lower peninsula of Michigan. Lake Huron disappeared in the smoky atmosphere so the scenery has been somewhat muted by the cond

End of Week 2 of the Great Lakes Bike Tour 2026
Hi there everyone - time for another update from Escanaba, having left Duluth in Minnesota, ridden through Wisconsin to reach here in the ‘Upper Peninsula’ (UP) in Michigan yesterday and now a day off to catch breath and relax (or write a blog!!). This week has been a bit of a rollercoaster both on the bike and in my emotions with my expectations of the ride being disappointed and some frustration surfacing, along with some tears and wishing to be back home with my wife, Elai

Day 9/ end of Week 1 - The journey towards Lake Superior and Duluth.
The final ride of Week 1, for me on the tour, took us from Hill City to Duluth and a certain part of my anatomy has been rejoicing in a day off on the Sunday!! I am currently sat in MacDonalds doing this blog as we have not had access to the internet in the places we have stayed for 3 days. How on earth did we survive, I hear you ask??!! For the last week of the ride I have been working on the ‘church clean-up’ team and whilst I was doing some final vacuuming around the Hill

Day 2 to 8 from Fargo, North Dakota to Hill City, Minnesota
It has been a few days since I arrived in the USA and I have been quite active, so it’s time to bring y’ll (you all) up to date with this latest adventure. So it is Saturday (27th June) and today the cyclists who have already joined the Northern Tier Tour arrive in Fargo and so I’m able to join them at the church where we will be staying until Monday morning. The Expressway Suites, where I checked in on Thursday, kindly let me stay in my room until early afternoon and then th

Day 1 in Fargo
Having caught three separate flights, visited the ‘Prince Shop’ in Minneapolis/St Paul Airport, I landed in Fargo after some 12 hours of traveling and contacted the hotel where I would be staying to request the shuttle bus to collect me. They duly turned up and I checked into the hotel and then tried to keep myself going despite it being early evening but just after midnight in terms of my body clock. I fell asleep watching the USA losing to Turkey (oops) and then woke up at

2026 - Here we go again!!
Well here I am again just days away from yet another trip to the USA to undertake a charity bike ride on behalf of the Fuller Center for Housing (Homepage - The Fuller Center for Housing). This time I will be riding my bike from Fargo in North Dakota to the Niagara Falls in New York State, going around 4 of the 5 Great Lakes separating Canada and the United States. Provided I can keep riding my bike, this represents some 1,575 miles in just over 4 weeks and includes 4 'Build
