Less than 50 days to go!

With the weather now taking a dip after a gorgeous week in Cornwall, I really need to keep up the momentum gained from the trip to France. My bike didn’t make it to Cornwall but I did go out on Saturday 12th and certainly improved my speed on the return journey from the cafe at Priddy. Not having panniers and being on my carbon fibre bike made such a difference. 😀

I have already started to gather my things together for the American trip and gearing up for sleeping on church floors for 4 weeks! Yes, I will be taking an inflatable mattress, sleeping bag and inflatable pillow with me to make sure I sleep okay. That said, after cycling an average of 68 miles per day, sleep will probably not be an issue!

I usually take a soft wheelie luggage case and a rucksack with me to carry everything I need. Cycling clothes, casual clothes, toiletries, a towel, a spare tyre and tubes, water bottles, etc.. I also pack some of my music CDs too and most of these are sold along the way, creating space for the cycling jersey and T shirt provided by the Fuller Center.

This will be my 6th ride with the Fuller Center for Housing (https://fullercenter.org), a Christian Housing charity, based in the USA 🇺🇸 but undertaking projects all around the world. I will be travelling to Portugal 🇵🇹 in September to help build new homes with this charity. There is a fairly regular pattern to most of the rides, with Sundays usually a day of rest, cycling days and ‘build’ days where we climb off our bikes and help repair/ build homes. This is in partnership with local Fuller Center groups who identify the needs in their communities and we arrive to provide the labour to do the work. It is amazing what 30-40 people can do in just a few hours to help transform lives!

One of the first things I do (after showering) when we arrive at a new church is to find a piano. It is a great way to unwind and relax. Occasionally, I am asked to play by fellow riders or by the church where we are staying and this is always fun.

Charity plug - Beware - I’m after your money!!

Yes, here is the link to my UK funding page for the two children’s charities, including the Lily Foundation. Please go there now and make a donation even if it is only a few pounds/dollars. If enough go there we will see the numbers change:

Counting down to another adventure!!
